When confidentiality can be broken
Sessions are confidential, within legal and safety limits. I may share information without your consent:
- if you or someone else is at serious risk of harm
- if I believe a child (anyone under 18) has been, is being or may be harmed. In line with the Children First Act 2015 and national guidance, I will report this to Tusla
- where the law requires it, such as a court order or a legal duty to give information to An Garda Síochána.
If you tell me about abuse in your own childhood, we will talk together about whether any child may be at risk now.
Where it is safe and possible, I will always talk with you first.
Supervision
I attend regular clinical supervision, as the IACP requires. Your work is discussed without identifying you, and my supervisor is bound by the same ethical code.
Your records
I keep brief, secure notes of our work, separately from this website. How long they are kept, and your right to see them, are explained in the privacy notice.
Online sessions
Online sessions take place on a secure video platform. Please join from a private space where you won't be overheard. Neither of us records a session without the other's written agreement.
