# Clinical Supervision with Rosemary Chaney

The place where the work of the work happens.

Clinical supervision is a formal arrangement whereby a therapist meets a qualified supervisor to discuss their work. The supervisor is also a therapist, who has completed additional training in supervision. The IACP sees supervision as vital to a therapist's competency, accreditation and wellbeing, and it is required by most accredited counselling bodies. It maintains good standards of counselling for the client, supports the therapist, and helps the therapist find their own style and explore different ways of working.

## What happens in a session

During supervision, Rosemary helps develop the effectiveness of the therapist–client relationship, and supports the continuing professional development and personal welfare of the therapist. Aspects of the therapist's work are discussed in an objective way; any issues or questions the therapist is carrying are addressed, along with any observations Rosemary may have. The aim is that the therapist is meeting the needs of the people they are working with, as well as their own needs.

## The impact of the work on you

Supervision ensures the therapist stays fully aware of the impact their work has on them. Some client work can be traumatic for a therapist, or can become so because of what is arising in their private life. Staying aware of this is essential — for the therapist's own self-care and to ensure a continued high standard of care for clients.

## How it works

1. **Get in touch.** Send a short enquiry. Rosemary replies personally, usually within one working day, with availability and next steps.
2. **Initial conversation.** A short first meeting to talk through your setting, your caseload, and what you're looking for — and to check the fit.
3. **Ongoing supervision.** Monthly (minimum) or more frequent as agreed, in Dublin, at the Gorey practice, or by secure video anywhere in Ireland. IACP documentation provided as standard.

## Confidentiality

Supervision is confidential within the standard IACP ethical framework, including the usual limits around serious risk of harm and legal disclosure. Clients discussed are anonymised.

The IACP requires a minimum of one hour of supervision per month for pre-accreditation supervisees, with a set supervision-to-client-hours ratio. Frequency beyond that is agreed together.

Yes — Rosemary is trained in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (Levels 1 & 2, trained in Ireland by the Boulder, Colorado team) and holds the EMDR Europe Standard training.

**Do you provide IACP supervision documentation?**
Yes — hours, focus areas and required documentation for IACP accreditation or re-accreditation are provided as standard.

**Is supervision confidential?**
Yes, within the standard IACP ethical framework. Clients discussed are anonymised.

**Can I have you as both a therapist and a supervisor?**
No — the roles are held separately for ethical reasons.
